Clinical and Research Interests
I am interested in medical education and social determinants of health research!
What were you looking for in a residency program?
I was looking for a program with 1) a strong clinical foundation that would expose me to all types of patients and pathologies, 2) a place with high volume that would allow me to push myself, and 3) a program that felt like home! Duke has surpassed my expectations on all of these fronts.
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
A diverse patient population with presentations ranging from simple, bread-and-butter pathologies to very involved, complex cases. I've loved being able to jump from a shoulder dislocation to working with patients who have an LVAD - it keeps me on my toes and has helped me build confidence! Another major strength is the people (how cheesy, I know!). We get to spend a lot of time with not just our class, but the senior residents as well, and this has built a community of support and camaraderie like no other.
What advice do you have for incoming interns?
Think about what matters most to you when choosing a program, and trust your gut! Also, it's easy to feel lost or like you've forgotten everything from medical school as a new intern, but I promise that you will be a star if you show up every day for your patients and do the best that you can.
What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
The food scene here is incredible. It's a hidden gem of the south. Contact me if you want food recommendations while you visit! Other perks are the weather (we get four whole seasons), opportunities for outdoor adventures (or indoor if that's your thing), and proximity to the beach and mountains!
What do you like to do outside of Duke?
I love playing the piano and kalimba! I am also a proud cat mom and love to thrift, bike the American Tobacco Trail, explore national parks, and read thriller novels.
