Clinical and Research Interests

Clinically, I'm an omnivore. I love it all. Currently enamored with ultrasound.

Research is big for me. My lifelong question is "how do we sustainably move healthcare dollars upstream to maintain and improve the health of our population?" In the context of emergency medicine, I think a lot about what systems we need to set up from the ED to connect people to necessary resources as the landscape of outpatient healthcare becomes rockier for patients.

My background spans food-as-medicine across basic science (eg, cellular signaling, metabolism), translational (eg, inflammatory biology + coagulopathy), pharmaceutical (eg, drug and therapeutic development from discovery through clinical trials), and operational (eg, novel clinic visit formats, impact assessments of community programming) approaches.

I'm deeply enthusiastic about the future of research in Emergency Medicine -- we're a young specialty on the ascendance, and there's a ton of space to define what our academia will look like.

What were you looking for in a residency program?

I sought an academic program where my research career would be enthusiastically supported without any compromise in my clinical training.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Supportive and super smart faculty and peers. Amazing sim opportunities. Remarkable pathology.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

Trust the process - you've got everything you need in you already, and this system is built to mold us into the doctors we hope to be.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

EAAAASY LIVING! People are kind, the weather is great, and the prices are affordable! Lots of green space + everything is a 10-minute drive with plentiful parking. The food locally is super good. And RDU is an easy airport, so low barrier to travel.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Ultimate frisbee (I play professionally for the Raleigh Radiance and coach the Duke Women's team), lifting, gardening, hanging with friends + partner + cat.
