What were you looking for in a residency program?

I was looking for a residency that would make me feel prepared for everything. Duke is a place where you see very bread-and-butter emergency medicine as well as the more medically complex patients. Most importantly, I wanted a program where I felt supported by faculty who were invested in my growth and excited about teaching.

What are the strengths of the Duke program?

Duke’s biggest strength is its people! The attendings are incredibly experienced and such strong teachers. The residents are supportive and people I genuinely enjoy spending time with.

What advice do you have for incoming interns?

My advice for interns is to stay humble and stay excited about learning. You don’t have to know everything on day one — just be open, ask questions, and treat every shift as an opportunity to grow.

What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?

What I like most about living in Durham and the Triangle is that it feels like the perfect ‘small city, big town’ mix. There’s great food, nature, and things to do, but it’s still easy and comfortable. It’s a really welcoming place to live and train.

What do you like to do outside of Duke?

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time cooking and baking, and I love going to trivia with friends!
