On May 16, 2018, Emergency Medicine residents competed in the national simulation competition SimWars, conducted by the Simulation Academy of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM). The team, who took home bronze medals for third place, included residents Adam Breslin, MD, David Goldberg, MD, Brian Nelson, MD, and Joshua Ring, MD.
The SimWars competition took place at the SAEM annual meeting in Indianapolis. Competitors worked through a variety of patient care simulations, all conducted in front of a large audience. The simulations’ immersive nature challenges the competitors mentally, emotionally, and physically, and offers learning opportunities for those participating and viewing the event.
Prior to the competition, Emergency Medicine colleagues coached the team, including Traci Thoureen, MD, MHS, Associate Professor of Surgery, Sreeja Natesan, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, and fellow resident Marame Gattan, MD.
This was the first year that Duke Emergency Medicine participated in the event. Congratulations to the resident team for placing in the competition!
