  • Hours vary significantly on a weekly basis. Our residents work 8-hour shifts primarily. Weekend shifts are often 12 hours in length. This is a similar schedule to our staff APPs and physician residents.

  • There will be day shifts (7a – 3p), afternoon shifts (3p – 11p), and night shifts (11p – 7a). The weekend shifts are 7a – 7p and 7p – 7a.

  • You will work approximately 150 hours/month.

  • The variation of hours provides exposure to different patient populations and experiences throughout your residency year.

  • You will have free access to UptoDate, EMRAP podcast, Rosh Review, and an EM Boot Camp Course (self-paced).

  • You can also utilize platforms such as WikiEM, Open Evidence.

  • You will gain extensive knowledge and clinical skills through active participation in your shifts, with a strong emphasis on hands-on experience.

  • Pursuing an EM APP residency can be extremely beneficial for a career in emergency medicine because of the focused training and advanced education it provides. The structured curriculum allows for concentrated exposure to high-acuity patients, complex pathology, and essential emergency procedures that build both clinical competence and confidence. An EM residency also offers a supportive and supervised learning environment led by experienced advanced practice providers and emergency physicians. This mentorship fosters real-time feedback, deliberate skill development, and progressive autonomy in a setting where patient safety remains a priority.

  • Ultimately, the program equips you with the procedural skills, clinical judgment, and comfort level necessary to practice effectively in the fast-paced emergency department. It helps bridge the gap between general education and the demands of independent emergency medicine practice, preparing you to deliver high-quality, efficient care from the start of your career.
