Clinical and Research Interests
- Addiction medicine
- Critical care
What were you looking for in a residency program?
- High volume and acuity
- Location
- Sense of family
- Research opportunities
- Academic>community
- Resident benefits
Duke EM fulfilled all these for me and I have truly loved it here :)
What are the strengths of the Duke program?
High volume and acuity, great physician teachers, plethora of research opportunities, phenomenal nursing staff and techs.
What advice do you have for incoming interns?
Enjoy the process! Go to second looks. Really reflect on what is important to you whether that is location, community vs academic, etc. Talk to residents outside of the scheduled socials and interview days. Lastly, enjoy your time off before intern year. Residency comes fast. Spend time with friends and families. Develop healthy habits such as going to the gym and pursuing your hobbies. Everything will work out and you will have plenty of time to study/learn in residency, so don’t study unless you feel like you really have to. In that case just brush up on HY em topics, lightly no more than 30-45 minutes per each day you study.
What do you like best about living in Durham and the Triangle?
I love the small town big city feel that Durham has to offer. Coming from Los Angeles I can appreciate the change in pace, essentially no traffic during working hours, and mild four seasons. Also, in Durham I’m two hours away from Charlotte and about 2.5 hours from the beach.
What do you like to do outside of Duke?
Fishing (tons of lakes and ponds in the triangle area), hiking, Durham Bulls Baseball, trying new eateries, and going to Canes games.
