THS strengthens EM global research ties with the delegation from the National University of Singapore (NUS) during October Visit

The Duke Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division of Translational Health Sciences welcomed a delegation from the National University of Singapore (NUS), led by Dr. Marcus Ong, during their October visit to the Duke University School of Medicine. The visit underscored the growing collaboration between Duke and NUS in advancing emergency medicine research and innovation.

The delegation participated in a series of workshops led by Dr. João Vissoci, focusing on shared interests in data science for emergency medicine operations, clinical research in acute care and emergency medical services (EMS), and global emergency medicine and climate research. The sessions generated a number of new ideas and potential projects aimed at improving emergency care worldwide.

In addition to the workshops, the NUS delegation met with Duke Emergency Medicine leadership and senior faculty to discuss the development of collaborative structures, exchange opportunities, and future research directions.

The visit included a dinner hosted by the Division of Translational Health Sciences, celebrating the emerging partnership and shared commitment to advancing emergency medicine through international collaboration. Among the attendees were members of the Duke–NUS delegation, including Dr. Patrick Tan, which reflects the strong institutional support for continued engagement between Duke and NUS.
