How to Apply

Applicants must have:

• Graduated from an approved PA training program
• Successfully completed the NCCPA certification exam prior to your start date
• Must be eligible for North Carolina and DEA licensure

• Application - Download and complete the form
• Official graduate program transcripts
• Official copy of PANCE score - PANCE must be completed by December 31 of the application year
• Three professional letters of recommendation
• Current curriculum vitae
• Personal statement of less than two pages stating personal and professional goals

• July 1: Application deadline
• July 15: Candidates will be invited to interview
• July 22 – 23: Candidate interviews will be conducted
• August 1: Candidate selection
• March 1, 2025: Tentative program start date

Program admission is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of an employee health screening and the Duke University Hospital credentialing process.

All application documents should be scanned and emailed to DukeEmergencyPAResidency@duke.edu no later than July 1. E-mail notification will be sent to applicants upon receipt of their complete application package.

At least one letter of recommendation should be from a health care professional with whom the applicant has worked. Letters should be written by those who can comment on the applicant's performance, potential, and professional goals (no friends or family members). The letters of recommendation should be sent directly from the professional writing the recommendation to DukeEmergencyPAResidency@duke.edu.

Applications will not be processed without receipt of all transcripts. Transcripts must be from all colleges and universities the applicant attended. Each transcript must be the original document and not a photocopy.

Please request that official, sealed transcripts be sent to you from your PA program and all colleges and universities that you have attended. Do not open the sealed envelopes.

Transcripts will also be accepted via email to DukeEmergencyPAResidency@duke.edu directly from the institution.

All applications are screened by our admissions committee. The most qualified applicants will be invited for a virtual interview. From this group, a class of three will be selected. 

Evidence of academic potential, knowledge of the health care system, motivation, personal maturity, self-assurance, and good interpersonal skills will weigh strongly in the admissions decision.

All candidates will be notified in writing of the admission committee's decision.

Candidates who have been interviewed are notified of the admission committee's decision as early as 10 days following the interview and no later than August 1.

Candidates confirm their place in the class by submitting the PA Residency Employment Agreement.

A ranked alternate list will be maintained for those candidates who have been interviewed for a position in the class. Should an accepted candidate withdraw from the program prior to the program start date, the position will be offered to the highest ranked candidate on the alternate list.
