Emergency Medicine Faculty and Resident Receive SAEM Grants

Congratulations to three members of the Division of Emergency Medicine for receiving grants from the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM).

Samuel Francis, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, is the first Duke faculty to receive a career development award from the SAEM. He will receive a 2-year, $300,000 grant for his project, “Platelet Kinetics in Acute Thrombus Formation in Healthy and VTE Patients.” The funding will support his training in thrombosis basic science and translational research.

Assistant Professor of Surgery Anjni Joiner, DO, MPH, will receive a foundation grant to support her research project, “Healthcare Access Barriers and an Evidence-Based Solution in a Low-Income Country,” which advances the division’s global scale of research.

Research resident Jinny Ye, MD, was honored with both an award and a scholarship from the SAEM. The grant will support her research project, “Prehospital Termination of Resuscitation in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.” The 2018 Advanced Research Methodology Evaluation and Design (ARMED) Scholarship, new for this year, honors Dr. Ye’s commitment to emergency medicine research and global health initiatives.

The awards are testament to the Division of Emergency Medicine’s continued commitment to research and scientific discovery.
