Chief Residents' Welcome

Dear Applicants,

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Duke Emergency Medicine Residency Program!

We’re thrilled that you’re considering joining the Duke EM family. As chief residents, we—Megan, Danh, and Raelynn—are honored to introduce you to a program that has not only shaped us as clinicians, but also fostered meaningful lifelong relationships and supported our growth every step of the way.

Duke offers top-notch medical training grounded in a strong academic tradition. As a Level 1 trauma center and tertiary referral hospital, we see a wide breadth of high-acuity patients from across the region, giving our residents exceptional exposure to critical decision-making and complex pathology (including frequently caring for patients with LVAD devices, cutting edge oncologic therapies, high acuity trauma patients, and more!). Whether you’re managing a trauma or medical resuscitation, leading a cardiac arrest or caring for medically complex patients, you’ll be prepared to thrive in any emergency department setting.

But what truly sets Duke apart is the people. Our department is made up of passionate, diverse, and supportive individuals who are committed not only to excellent patient care, but also to each other. From attendings who are deeply invested in teaching to co-residents who become your closest friends, the welcoming atmosphere here is real—and it’s something we’re proud of every day!

We’re a tight-knit group that supports each other through the challenges of residency and celebrates the successes together. Whether it’s impromptu dinners, hiking trips, or post-shift debriefs over coffee and breakfast, you’ll quickly find that Duke EM is more than a residency—it’s a community. Personally and professionally, we shoot for the moon!

We can’t wait to meet you and share more about what makes our program so special. Welcome to Duke Emergency Medicine!

Warmly,

Megan, Danh, and Raelynn
